1877 Capture of Plevna

140 years ago, on December 10, 1877, Russian and Romanian troops took the Bulgarian city of Plevna after a five-month siege. The Turkish garrison under the command of Osman Pasha capitulated after an unsuccessful attempt to break through. The Russians and Romanians lost up to 40 thousand people killed and wounded, the Turks - up to 10 thousand killed and wounded and up to 20 thousand prisoners. The fall of Plevna decided the outcome of the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878.
