Car communism. How car manufacturers and mobile services are fighting personal vehicles

The largest automobile companies began to offer their customers a subscription for a car instead of buying it. This means that you pay for transport as a service, not property. The Russian IT giant Yandex is going to join another type of collective use of cars-car sharing. "Medusa" tells how these schemes work and how they differ from the use of personal cars.

Everyone wants to have a car

No matter how convenient public transport becomes, no matter how much traffic jams increase in the largest cities, car sales are growing steadily. If in the 1990s about 40 million cars a year were sold in the world on average, then in 2016 this figure already exceeded 80 million. Only one and a half million new cars can appear on Russian roads alone in 2017.

But own the car is expensive

Car expenses are not only gasoline and fines for speeding and incorrect parking. There are binding taxes for all, insurance. In addition, to maintain the car on the go, it is necessary to periodically undergo inspection. For the most budget models (Hyundai Solaris or Lada Granta), the maintenance costs in the first three years are half the cost of the new car.

Now you can subscribe to the car

The first of the largest automakers in January 2017 was presented by Cadillac. For 1800 dollars a month (now already 1,500) you can call one of the last models that the driver will deliver to the right place. You will have to pay only for gasoline, since all other payments and help on the road are included in the price. Cadillac launched his service in New York, but now it also works in Los Angeles and Dallas.

In October, a similar premium service launched Porsche. There, the subscription price starts from $ 2,000. The service only works in Atlanta, but there is a choice of four models that can be changed even during the day. The service has already been called "Netflix for luxurious cars."

Budget analogs have already offered Huyndai (from $ 275 per month), Ford (from $ 500) and Volvo (from $ 600).

Subscription is not renting or leasing

Of all the services listed, the ability to redeem the car after you traveled on it (as in leasing), only Volvo offers. In addition, the standard rent usually does not allow you to change the car in the middle of the term of use - but by subscription you can do this, and they will even bring you a new car. And certainly neither rent nor leasing involves the accumulation of unused kilometers with a transfer for the next month.

At the same time, the rental market is also growing. In the USA, the rental park in 2014 exceeded two million cars, more than a thousand new rental companies are opening in Europe annually. At the same time, the medium -term rental rate remains stable for several years - no more than $ 70 a day.

Analysts are already building forecasts, according to which the machines for collective use will soon overtake personal transport by the time of use.

Carchering is most actively developing in Russia

This is also rent, only permanent. Carchering is already available from different companies in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ufa, Nizhny Novgorod and the Krasnodar Territory. Only in Moscow, the total park of all companies - 3.6 thousand cars that use 300 thousand people. The main advantage of the largest of them is free parking on the streets, where for ordinary cars the cost reaches 200 rubles per hour.

On December 8, Yandex announced that he would also launch a short -term rental service.
