The Mir payment system to bypass sanctions will close the data on the region of the release of cards and the place of residence of customers for foreign banks so that the inhabitants of the annexed Crimea have the opportunity to use Mir cards abroad. This was stated by the general director of the operator of the NSPK JSC Vladimir Komlev, Kryminform reports .
"We are engaged in promoting direct payments abroad using the Mir card, and for a partner who is reception, information about which bank has issued a card and where a citizen lives is closed at the level of our payment system," Komlev said. According to him, by the end of 2019, the systems of the system "will be able to accept all the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union." At the same time, Komlev refused to name specific terms when the cards began to be accepted to the European Union.
In the summer of this year, the RNKB bank announced the intention to issue up to 500 thousand payment cards of the Mir payment system to residents of Crimea.
After the Crimea was occupied by Russia in March 2014, most Ukrainian banks, as well as subsidiaries of Western banks in Ukraine, stopped working on the peninsula. Russian banks, in turn, did not open branches in Crimea due to the threat of Western sanctions.
On the territory of Crimea , there are no maps of international payment systems VISA and MasterCard. These payment systems stopped serving the residents of the peninsula after the United States in December 2014 imposed sanctions prohibiting American companies to conduct business and invest in the peninsula.
