1862 Battle of Fredericksburg

155 years ago, on December 11, 1862, the Battle of Fredericksburg (Virginia) began between the Confederate Army under the command of Robert Lee and the Unionist Army of the Potomac under the command of Ambrose Burnside. It ended on December 15 with the defeat of the northerners, who lost up to 20,000 people killed, wounded and captured. The losses of the southerners amounted to 5,377 people. As a result, the Army of the Potomac was forced to stop advancing on the Confederate capital of Richmond.
