1922. The murder of Gabriel Narutovich

95 years ago, on December 16, 1922, the first President of Poland Gabriel Narutovich, friend and ally of Jozef Pilsudski, was killed. He was shot dead at the opening of an art exhibition in the Warsaw Gallery of Zacent just five days after the president’s election.

The killer of Narutovich, the artist Eligiush Nevyadovo, said in the court that he was originally about to shoot at Pilsudski as the main guide of democratic and left ideas, "destroying the Polish state", but when Pilsudski refused the president’s post, Nizhnyadsky decided to make an attempt on Narutovich. In January 1923, the president’s killer was shot.
