Former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFol criticized US President Donald Trump for a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. It took place the day before yesterday.
In an interview with MCNBC, McFol said that Trump and Putin’s phone call did not meet American national interests. In addition, the former ambassador is surprised that Trump's advisers generally allowed him to make this call.
Among other things, McFol criticized the head of the White House for thanking Putin for his positive assessments about the growth rate of the American economy.
The fact that the presidents of Russia and the United States were talking on the phone became known on December 15, after the annual press conference of Putin.
The Kremlin press service reported that Putin and Trump discussed issues of bilateral relations, especially affecting the North Korean nuclear problem.
According to the White House information, Trump thanked Putin for the fact that during his press conference he noted the economic successes of the United States, achieved over the past year.
