
During a working visit to Damascus, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Chairman of the country's Council of Ministers Imad Khamis and Foreign Minister Walid Muallem. reports this Interfax .
Rogozin also visited the Russian base in Khmeimim and held a meeting there on the practice of combat use of Russian weapons. He noted that the trip route was difficult, and it became possible thanks to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that when he was in Syria 2.5 years ago, people were only thinking about how to protect at least those pieces of territory that they had left.
“Now the situation is different. This is the expectation of final victory and a certain tension about how to further move towards a peaceful life,” Rogozin concluded.
On December 11, at the Khmeimim base, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the head of Syria Bashar al-Assad and gave the Russian Ministry of Defense an order to withdraw the main contingent.
