According to the latest data, in a train crash that fell off a flyover onto a highway, three people died and about 100 were taken to hospitals, writes The Washington Post . Earlier it was reported about six dead.
The exact causes of the accident will be determined by investigators who will conduct a thorough investigation, the newspaper notes. But it is known that the train was moving at a speed of 81 miles per hour, while in this section the speed limit is 30 miles per hour.
A passenger train that runs daily between Seattle and Portland derailed on the morning of December 18. One of the wagons fell onto a busy highway, damaging the vehicles.
As noted by The Washington Post, this was the first flight after the reconstruction of the railway line. The new route was supposed to save passengers 10 minutes per trip.
“We are deeply saddened by everything that has happened. We will do everything in our power to support passengers and crew members and their families,” said Amtrak President and CEO Richard Anderson.
