"Besides Putin, no one can help"

At the end of November, Zoya Nurmatova, the mother of the journalist of Novaya Gazeta, Ali Feruza, turned to Vladimir Putin with a request not to deport her son to Uzbekistan, but to let go to Germany, where he was ready to accept him. Zoe Vasilievna is 71 years old, she lives in the Altai Republic, on the edge of the village of Maima near Gorno-Altay-in a tiny one-room apartment, which is divided with the granddaughter. Ali himself has not been here since 2012 and, perhaps, will not appear for a long time.

Working in Moscow, journalist Ali Feruz wrote about the problems and violations of the rights of migrants from Central Asia , and now he himself is threatened by deportation to Uzbekistan - an equal, according to him, death penalty. On August 1, 2017, the Basmanny Court found Ali Feruz guilty of violating the regime of stay in Russia and decided to deport it to Uzbekistan, from where he fled in 2008 after torture, which he was subjected to special services, trying to force him to cooperate. On August 4, the ECHR imposed a ban on deportation. Since then, Ali has been in the center of temporary detention of deported foreign citizens.

The correspondent "Siberia. Real" visited Mom Ali Feruz.

“ Are you already used to the fact that everyone calls your son Ali?”

-His own name is different-Dryberdy, Bogdan turns out in Russian. Well, since everyone calls Ali Feruz, let it be a pseudonym, or just Ali.

-How long did Ali live with you here in Gorno-Altaysk?

-He studied here in Onguda (a village in the Altai Republic, 200 km from Gorno-Altaysk.-Approx. SR). I came from Uzbekistan without a stake without a yard - as in childhood I left here with a black household bag, and returned back - with nothing. I left everything. I lived well there, worked at the school for 39 years. But then the oppression there began the Russian -speaking population. The husband once came and said why I go in a small scarf - I need to wear a long coat like a dressing gown, and a burden. We quarreled with him - I answered him that as I wanted, I would walk - I need time to rebuild. But I never rebuilt.

- How did you end up in Uzbekistan?

- From the orphanage where I grew up, I went to Zelenogorsk to a construction site, and from there to the Melange plant to Barnaul, and there they came to us from the Komsomol to the dormitory and were invented to go to Uzbekistan to the textile plant, this was shortly after the earthquake in Tashkent: “You won’t wear felt boots, you won’t wear mittens, there is only a year -old, there is a year -old hot year. grape!"

We have never seen grapes in Altai in those years, I have never seen a train in my village! Well, I went. In Uzbekistan, I learned the Uzbek language, I gave birth to 10 children (only four survived. - Approx. SR) and now I have remained a broken trough.

- And who worked there?

-She started with the commandant, and graduated from the deputy director for educational work of the cotton-breeding school-this is the vocational school of the city of Tsayan. I went to advanced training, studied in Tashkent, in Moscow. The Russian language was poorly known there, and all the documentation was conducted in Russian. The head teacher with higher education could not even make a tariff. Therefore, I was there a valuable employee. In general, only cotton is appreciated in Uzbekistan and ordinary people are needed there only to collect it. And the children did not even have any special prescriptions in this school, if only they knew how to drive a tractor, cotton combines.

- When did you return from Uzbekistan? How did life develop in Russia after returning?

-In 1990, I returned with three sons, my daughter had been married by that time, and my husband was already in divorce. We came here naked, there was nothing, completely without money. They rented a room next to the dining room in Onguda and in the same room spent the night daily. Everyone and night all worked together - they built an Uzbek cafe. They survived, of course, but no one went without pants and hungry. I, in general, have always been a strict mother.

There are many children, I worked, but they were always busy with me: they didn’t wander, didn’t smoke, although there is drug addiction in Uzbekistan around, after all, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and so on. But my Ali never smoked even cigarettes, did not drink. And now he began to smoke, it is constantly coughing .... He got a lot of suffering. Why is he sitting?! Gastarbiters are taken without a passport, they will be kept and released for a month or three, then they are again caught by them. And what is they holding and not let go?!

- Do you manage to call up with Ali? What does he talk about the conditions of his stay in this center?

- Yes, he called. What are the conditions?! If, he says, I'm sitting in a cage, mom! Why in a cage?! Only grave criminals are planted like that. But that's why such a state system?! What is he, some kind of bandit, or what? He is affectionate, honest, very honest. "Do not say it, there will be troubles!" -I used to warn him, and he would take it and say ... infinitely honest, but they hold something. Just because he has no documents?! So all the documents were stolen from him - a small bag of a rag with documents ... But he did not receive a passport in Russia. And for this - in the cage?!

- Why didn't Ali get a Russian passport?

- Shortly before I left the children from Uzbekistan, we divorced my husband, stepfather and guardian Ali. Ali was still very small. And when it was time to get a passport, it turned out that he needs to write out from there, from Uzbekistan for this, and register here in Altai. But for this you need to get the official permission of the ex -husband to ensure that the child lives with the mother. And my husband did not give me this document because of the conflicts with him. Ali was not discharged, and he did not receive a passport in Russia. He received the Uzbek passport, and he entered the university with him. He studied very well, was smart, talented. He entered Kazan University at the Faculty of Arabic. And everything began as with a clean sheet, with this Uzbek passport, he could not only get Russian. All the time there were some obstacles.

- Ali was married?

-In the 11th grade, he met a girl, a resident of Kyrgyzstan, she is an Uzbek. And immediately married. For some time they lived in Uzbekistan, in Kyrgyzstan, in Kazakhstan. Ali worked. He is a good confectioner I have-I dragged him so much that he knows how to do three or four-story cakes. There, in Kazakhstan, their children were born. But Delafruz left him - she got married, gave birth to the third from another man.

- They write that when he lived with his wife in Uzbekistan, the special services became interested in them. What happened there?

And all his hands were in his blood, he says, he was stuck with his feet. What are these special services?! He told me, only death is waiting for me there

-Delafruz herself told me so: in Uzbekistan, one evening, the district police officer came to their house and asked Ali to reach the precinct room. He left, and ran back home only in the morning and said: "Hurry, soon, get ready - let's leave!" And all his hands, fingers, he says, was swollen with him - he cried. As the daughter -in -law explained, they wanted Ali to meet the locals, learn everything about them and surrendered their police. Well, he took and ran away, said: "I am leaving - I will not live here!" And all his hands were in his blood, he says, he was stuck with his feet. What are these special services?! He told me, only death awaits me there.

- Do you know about Ali's religious views? Could he be connected with something extremist?

- No no! My husband, stepmother Ali, has been a religious person all his life since Soviet times. He knows all the suras at the very least. And we wanted the child to know all the suras so that he would live well, so that he would not jinx him - such an order was in our family. Then he entered Kazan University - he knew languages very well. He had such a pure boy, obedient in this sense, as the elder said, it will be so. But in Moscow he changed, these tattoos appeared in him. I say: "What did you do with yourself? Have you been such a boy?" He laughed: "This is normal now, now I do not believe in any god, I don’t need it, I saw so many problems in my life, and God did not help me!" He already had no religious views at all, and even more so these in which he is now suspected.

“ You were in court when you considered his case.” And they said that they could not perform well there. Why?

- The judge asks the same thing 20 times. I know that the word has some kind of power, but they either backwards, then front, then from the side from all sides, and I lost my memory-I already spoke sclerosis, confused. And there were so many people - they go and take pictures, a lot of people. I was scared. I’ll start the word, but I’ll finish backwards.

- And what did you ask mainly about?

- What connection did you have with your son? Well, what connection the mother has with her son - they had one! Well, what did you organize with your son? Helped in something or did he help you with something? What was the connection? Well, I take it and say: "As a mother, how I gave birth - navel, I say, connection!" Well, what else will I say?! Here everyone somehow smiled, laughed, then the son says, says: "We cooked, read together, engaged in a garden."

I think it was all on the Uzbek side. Why is it not let go yet? After all, not because the documents were stolen from him!

- How with your health? What operations were?

- The heart is, a pacemaker is worth it, after 10 years you need to change. Now the 7th year has gone. The rib was breaking. I have a cataract because of the lime, which caught my eye. Now the lens was changed in the Novosibirsk eye hospital. Ali sent 60 thousand for the operation.

- Why did you decide to record a video message to Vladimir Putin?

- I was taught by a familiar lawyer - says, do not be shy about anyone, go ahead. “His diligence, your mind, your wisdom are all applicable,” he says. I am cheering at Ali, I have to go and go forward. And besides Putin, no one can help. You can hang noodles on your ears by anyone, but not to me. And the local security forces in our Altai advised: "Besides Putin, no one will help to tear it out." I already understand my mind that I am not alone in such a bondage-many, many. And on Red Square, and people come to the State Duma. But the next time I will be in Moscow and now I will sit down and declare a hunger strike on Red Square. I was already told that they did not have the right to pull me out of there.

The other day, Zoya Nurmatova arrived in Moscow and had already seen with her son at the center of temporary detention of migrants. According to Friends of Ali Feruz, he dissuades his mother from a hunger strike, fearing for her health. At the same time, no one now knows how much more Ali can hold in the center of temporary detention of migrants and whether something can prevent his deportation to Uzbekistan.
