Former Governor of the Sakhalin Region Alexander Khoroshavin wants an acquittal in the case of the legalization of money and bribes for 522 million rubles. The first about the acquittal was asked by the court by his lawyer Olga Artyukhov-due to the lack of evidence of his guilt.

Artyukhova said that the accusation against her client was built "on speculation and assumptions," the correspondent of Interfax from the courtroom reported the words of the lawyer. “I join the lawyer,” Khoroshavin said followed. Artyukhova also asked the court to take into account the existence of state awards and the positive characteristics that witnesses gave the former governor.

The state prosecutor previously asked Khoroshavin to be sentenced to imprisonment for 13 years in a maximum security colony and a fine of 500 million rubles.

Earlier it was reported that, according to investigators, Khoroshavin organized a criminal group in 2009, with the help of which he received “kickbacks” from almost all the large construction projects of Sakhalin and other projects that had budget financing. In the case of 10 episodes, in the materials of the investigation, 522 million rubles appear as bribes and 77 million rubles - as "legalized funds".
