
80 years ago, on December 20, 1937, the Belarusian scientist and public figure Stepan Mikhailovich Nekrashevich, the first chairman of the Belarusian culture, academician of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus and one of the creators of the modern Belarusian language was shot. In 1930, he was arrested in the falsified case of the "Union of Liberation of Belarus" and exiled to Udmurtia. In 1937 he was arrested and sentenced to death on charges of participating in a counter -revolutionary terrorist organization.
