The first hearing in the case of Suleiman Kadyrov, accused of separatism, took place

The Feodosia City Court of Crimea has begun a hearing of the criminal case of a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, activist Suleiman Kadyrov, accused of separatism. This was reported by the lawyer of the Agora International Human Rights Group, Alexey Ladin.

Kadyrov is accused of public calls for separatism (Part 2 of Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code) for reposting a video from a Facebook page. The indictment was announced in court. Kadyrov did not admit guilt. In addition, eight witnesses in the case were questioned.

On October 5, 2016, a search was conducted at Suleiman Kadyrov’s house in Feodosia, during which his phone and computer were confiscated. The search was carried out in connection with statements allegedly made by Kadyrov that Crimea is a territory of Ukraine. On October 10, Kadyrov was summoned for questioning.

On October 11, 2016, a criminal case was opened against Kadyrov under Part 2 of Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code (public calls for actions aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation, committed using the media or electronic or information and telecommunication networks, the maximum sanction is imprisonment up to five years).

In April 2017, the activist was added to the list of terrorists and extremists, and therefore his bank card was also blocked.
