Chapukh reported deteriorating health after his arrest. He has difficulty moving the left side of his body. Independent medical experts regarded this as a possible sign of a stroke. As Naumlyuk notes, “the head of the medical unit of the pre-trial detention center, Yevgeny Anikanov, told his relatives that he had an order to send Chapukh to the clinic for diagnosis and possible treatment, but for the past three days the order has not been carried out.”

Another detainee in this case, Bekir Degermendzhi, also has serious health problems - he has asthmatic bronchitis. He is currently in intensive care on a ventilator.
