Magadan: The number of HIV-infected people is growing among pregnant women

Over the past three years in the Magadan region, cases of sexual distribution of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) have exceeded a share of 50%. Until 2014, in the region the virus was most often found from drug addicts. The method and infection of HIV has changed a lot, confirmed by the head physician of the Center for the Prevention and AIDS of AIDS of the Magadan region Zinaida Lukin.

Today, according to Lukina, the "prosperous segments of the population", individuals of active and working age, have been infected. The number of infected pregnant women is also growing: in 2015, the child appeared in five HIV-infected residents of the region, last year-in seven, this year-in 15. In all cases, children were born healthy. “However, the trend in the spread of HIV infection in the Magadan region does not allow to talk about stabilizing the situation,” Vostok.tode quotes Lukin.

At the beginning of 2017, 543 HIV-infected Russians were registered in the Magadan region, of which 442 permanently live in the region. In 2016, 37 people with HIV/AIDS were registered in Magadan for the first time, while the indicator of the newly identified infected ones decreased - in 2015 there were 52.
