Top manager of Russia's largest uranium mining enterprise detained for bribe

The Investigative Committee reported on the receipt of a bribe of 5 million by the deputy director of one of the mining enterprises in Transbaikalia. According to TASS, we are talking about a top manager of the structure of Rosatom.

“According to the investigation, on December 18, he received a bribe in the amount of 5 million rubles from the head of one of the limited liability companies for concluding an agreement on the purchase of a large batch of coal and subsequent general patronage,” the Transbaikal department of the UK said in a statement.

The criminal case was initiated based on the materials of the operational development of the employees of the regional department of the FSB. The accused was detained while handing over the money and arrested by court order.

In the message of the Investigative Committee, the man’s place of work is not named, however, the TASS state agency writes that he is an employee of the Priargunsky Production Mining and Chemical Association (part of Atomredmetzoloto, the mining division of Rosatom State Corporation).

The Priargunsky Production Mining and Chemical Association was established in 1968 in Krasnokamensk (Zabaikalsky Krai). Today it is the largest uranium mining enterprise in Russia.

Uranium mining is carried out by underground mining on the basis of operating underground mines No. 1 and No. 8. Ore processing is carried out at the hydrometallurgical plant and at the heap leach site. The finished product of the enterprise is uranium oxide - U3O8.
