The United States imposed sanctions against Artem Chaika

The United States has expanded restrictions under the “global Magnitsky Act” and imposed sanctions against Artem Chaika, the son of Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika. The corresponding document was published on the website of the American Ministry of Finance.

“The President issued a new executive order to block the property of individuals involved in serious human rights violations and corruption,” the department’s website said.

According to the department, Artem, taking advantage of his father’s position, received state property and contracts and put pressure on his competitors. The Ministry of Finance notes that in 2014, during the reconstruction of one of the highways, Chaika’s competitor suddenly found himself under the close attention of prosecutors, which did not allow him to work.

In total, the updated list includes 15 people and 37 organizations. Also featured in it are the daughter of former Uzbek President Islam Karimov, Gulnara, and the former head of the Kyiv Berkut, Sergei Kusyuk.

At the end of 2015, Alexei Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation released an investigation into the business of Yuri Chaika’s family. In particular, the film stated that Igor and Artem Chaika may be involved in the raider takeover of a business. The Prosecutor General himself called this film “custom-made.”
