The Deputy Prime Minister intends to take back the dachshund that took part in the dive.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, in comments on his Facebook page, responded to accusations of animal husbandry after an experiment with immersing a dachshund in a special liquid that allows him to breathe normally.

He called for such research to be treated with understanding and called for support for scientists who “have finally solved the problem that they worked on back in the Soviet Union.”

A representative of the Foundation for Advanced Research said that the Deputy Prime Minister will receive a dog after the New Year - doctors will monitor the animal for two weeks. He noted that Nicholas would no longer participate in the experiments.

On December 19, Rogozin presented to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic the development of the Advanced Research Foundation - a liquid breathing project that can be used to rescue submariners at great depths, as well as to care for premature babies.

To demonstrate the development, a dachshund was used; it was placed in a tank with a special liquid, it quickly got accustomed to the new environment and began to breathe normally. When the dachshund was removed from the liquid, Vucic was convinced that she was okay. However, Twitter users reacted negatively to what they saw and accused Rogozin of animal abuse.

Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said he was surprised by the increased attention of journalists to the new development. According to him, the main thing is that the dog remained alive.

Fluid breathing involves filling the lungs with oxygenated fluid that enters the blood. The first experiments on dogs began in the 1940s, and it has been tested on humans since the 1980s. This technology helps with lung injuries, but the liquid is too viscous and you won’t be able to breathe it for a long time - carbon dioxide will begin to accumulate in the blood, which is eliminated during breathing, scientists say.
