During a secret ballot, the majority of delegates voted in favor of Grudinin's nomination, while 11 voted against, RBC reports , citing an unnamed interlocutor in the Communist Party. How many people took part in the voting is not specified.

Earlier, the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov said that he would head "the supreme council of the people's patriotic forces and the headquarters for the election campaign."

On December 23, pre-election congresses were also held in other parties. "Civil Initiative" put forward Ksenia Sobchak, who published the election program. The Small Business Party nominated its chairman Yuri Sidorov, the Monarchist Party - its founder Anton Bakov .
