The head of the U.S. Armed Forces Committee, John McCain, issued a special statement regarding the decision of the Donald Trump administration to supply Javelin anti -tank complexes to the Ukrainian authorities.
According to the senator, this decision had to be made several years earlier, but "since [Russian President] Vladimir Putin continues to sow instability in Ukraine, and the forces led by Russia strengthen his deadly attacks, this decision was made at the most suitable time."
McCain notes that "providing Ukraine with the necessary opportunities to contain and protect against further Russian aggression will contribute to the creation of more stable security conditions necessary for the peaceful settlement of this conflict."
In turn, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said on Facebook that "American weapons in the hands of the Ukrainian military are not for the offensive, but for a decisive rebuff to the aggressor, the protection of Ukrainian military and civilians, as well as effective self -defense."
