Linguist Andrey Zaliznyak died

At the age of 82, the Russian linguist Andrei Zaliznyak died. This was announced on his FB page by a colleague of the deceased Dmitry Sichinava.

Zaliznyak was born on April 29, 1935 in Moscow. Graduated from Moscow University; In 1957-1958 he studied in Paris - at the Sorbonne and the Higher Normal School. Since 1960 he worked at the Institute of Slavic Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences - RAS; In parallel, he taught at Moscow University. He also read courses at universities in Austria, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland, Sweden. In 1967, Zaliznyak published a fundamental study "Russian Name of Punishment", in which nouns, adjectives, numerals and pronouns are classified in detail from the point of view of the types of declension. This monograph is a classic example of an advanced structuralist approach at that time.

In 1977, the scientist published the "Grammar Dictionary of the Russian Language", compiled in the spirit of the principles of "Russian nominated phenomenon." A dictionary prepared by a manually, in the future, formed almost all computer programs of automatic morphological analysis of Russian texts. In particular, it is used in search engines and machine translation programs.

Since 1982, one of the main areas of work of Zaliznyak was the study of the language of Novgorod birch bark letters. As a result of research, the scientist in 1995 released the work of the "Ancient-Gorod Dialect". In the appendix to the book, a linguistic commentary is given to all birch bark letters known at that time.

In addition, after the discovery of the Novgorod Code in 2000, the Palimpsest containing several layers of the text, - the backbone was reconstructed by the hidden records of this monument.

The result of the subsequent study of Novgorod texts was the monograph "Old Russian Enklitics", published in 2008.

In 2004, Zaliznyak published the book “The Word about Igor’s Regiment”: the gaze of a linguist, which was considered a well-known hypothesis that this monument is a fake of the 18th century. Having analyzed the poem’s language in detail, the scientist concluded that the probability of falsification is vanishingly small: to write such a text in the new time, it was necessary to set up knowledge that linguistics received only linguistics.
