The Basmanny Court left Sophia Apfelbaum under house arrest

Today, December 25, the Moscow Basmanny District Court granted the investigation, extending the term of home arrest until April 19, 2018 to the director of the Russian Academic Youth Theater (RAMT) Sofya Apfelbaum accused of the Seventh Studio.

According to Kommersant , at the trial, the representative of the investigation stated that when they were free, the Apfelbaum could hide from law enforcement or come into contact with other defendants in the case.

The accused herself stated in court that “she did not commit sane acts, was not in any criminal communities,” and added that she intends to defend her innocence.

Her lawyer Irina Vorovinova asked the court to release the director of Ramt on security of 1 million rubles. She noted that the investigation took as the basis the “absurd testimony” of the former accountant of the Seventh Studio Nina Maslyaeva.

According to the investigator, the criminal case of Maslyaeva until mid -spring will be allocated into a separate proceedings, Interfax reports.

The defense also presented the petitions of cultural and art figures with a request to release the Apfelbaum from house arrest, including the request of the chairman of the Union of Theater Workers of the Russian Federation, Alexander Kalyagin, students of GITIS, General Director of the Bolshoi Theater Vladimir Urin, the heads of the Arlelen Prize, the leadership of the Tovstonogov BDT, the Russian Federation in the Vatican, the ex-minister of culture of Alexander Avdeev and the rector and rector School-Studio of the Moscow Art Theater Igor Zolotovitsky.

In addition to the Apfelbaum and Maslyaeva, the artistic director of Gogol-Center, the creator of the Seventh Studio, Kirill Serebrennikov and several of its former employees: general producer Alexei Malobrodsky, general director Yuri Itin and producer Ekaterina Voronova are held in the case of the Seventh Studio. They are accused of the fact that in 2011-2014, at least 68 million rubles of budget funds allocated the Seventh Studio for the Platform theater project stole at least 68 million rubles.

Malobrodsky is detained, Serebrennikov, Itin, Maslyaev and Apfelbaum under house arrest, Voronova in absentia was arrested and put on the wanted list. None of the accused pleads guilty, except Maslyaeva, who concluded a deal with the investigation and testified to former colleagues. On October 12, the Moscow Basmanny Court extended the arrest of the accused until January 19, 2018.

Anatoly Vasiliev , actors, directors, writers, playwrights and heads of theaters from different countries, 1300 signatures gathered an open letter from three hundred young Russian cultural figures who demanded to free the defendants in the Seventh Studio, more than a hundred people entered the Cyril Serebrennikov support committee created in France.
