The Central Election Commission refused to register the initiative group to nominate the leader of the Party of Progress Alexei Navalny as a presidential candidate of Russia. The broadcast of the meeting was carried out on the YouTube channel "Navalny Live".
12 members of the commission voted, including its chairman Ella Pamfilova. The 13th - the Fair Russia functionary Nikolai Levichv, the former vice speaker of the State Duma, with the permission of Pamfilova, eliminated his decision, citing the fact that in 2013 he was a competitor to Navalny in the election of the Moscow Mayor.
At the CEC meeting, Navalny told the officials: "I urge you to make the elections real, and you say no" no. "CEC both under Churov and with Pamfilova behave the same."
“Your legal constructions are incorrect,” the opposition continued. “In the Constitution it is written that people should be allowed to be admitted to the elections that are capable and not in places of imprisonment.” In addition, he added Navalny, the ECHR indicated that the sentences issued to him were unfinished. “It’s obvious to everyone, and you also understand this: my affairs were fabricated to prevent me from polls,” he remarked.
“I came here to declare that I represent a huge number of voters,” Navalny emphasized. “The decision of the cyc about preventing me will exclude millions of people from these elections ... You make this decision not against me, but against those 16 thousand people who nominated me yesterday. Millions who would vote for me.”
“Once in your life, you can even do a feat - but observe the law,” the oppositionist concluded. “You spend your life on a lie. You can do the right thing once in your life. Make it.”
Immediately after the decision of the CEC on the YouTube channel of Navalny, his appeal appeared with an appeal to the boycott of the elections. The politician later wrote on his Twitter that together with his supporters would begin to prepare a street protest. “It should be really all -Russian,” Navalny emphasized.
On Sunday , in 20 cities of Russia, a collection of signatures of initiative groups for navigation of Navalny took place . In the evening of the same day, the signatures were handed over to the CEC .
Navalny repeatedly noted that the presence of conditional criminal records - in the case of Kirovles and in the "postal case" - does not prevent his nomination for elections. He pointed out that part 3 of Article 32 of the Constitution deprives suffrage - both active and passive - only persons who are in places of imprisonment, but not citizens serving conditional terms.
