A court in Moscow extended the house arrest of RAMT director Sofya Apfelbaum

In Moscow, the Basmanny Court extended until April 19 the house arrest of the director of the Russian Academic Youth Theater (RAMT) Sofya Apfelbaum in the case of fraud (part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code) in the “Seventh Studio” of Kirill Serebrennikov, reports . the Moscow agency

The investigator asked to extend the arrest period, because the person involved in the case could hide from the investigation and court, and also interfere with an objective investigation. Apfelbaum’s defense insisted that the investigation was biased, and the case was “sewn with white threads,” and asked to be released on bail of 1 million rubles.

“I’ve been in isolation for two months now, and I thought that nothing could be worse than parking incorrectly. I am being charged with terrible acts that I did not commit; I was doing my job according to the regulations,” Apfelbaum said at the trial.

At the end of October, the Basmanny Court of Moscow sent Apfelbaum under house arrest in the case of fraud on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, in 2011-2014, on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, in collusion with the artistic director of the Gogol Center, Kirill Serbrennikov, she signed agreements with the Seventh Studio on the provision of government subsidies in the amount of more than 214 million rubles. In addition, the investigation believes that Apfelbaum approved reporting documentation containing inflated information about the number and cost of theatrical events.
