The CEC refused Navalny to register in the elections allegedly because of the outstanding criminal record

On December 25, the Central Election Commission (CEC) refused Alexei Navalny to register a presidential candidate in the elections in 2018 due to outstanding criminal record. About this writes "Medusa".

This is a criminal case of causing property damage by deceiving the Kirovles company.

• On July 18, 2013, the Lenin Court of Kirov sentenced Navalny and Officer to five and four years in deprivation of liberty on charges of embezzlement of property by Kirovles (part 4 of article 160 of the Criminal Code with the application of Part 3 of Article 33).
• On October 16, 2013, the court of appeal replaced the punishment of both - this was preceded by mass protests in a number of cities of Russia.
• On February 23, 2016, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg recognized that Navalny and Officer were convicted of acts that cannot be distinguished from ordinary entrepreneurial activity. At the same time, admitting that the Russian court had to take into account the figure of Navalny and his social activity, the ECHR did not see a political motive in the Kirovles case. In accordance with the decision of the ECHR, Russia was supposed to pay Navalny and an officer of a total of 71 thousand euros as compensation for legal costs and 8 thousand euros as compensation for damage.
• On November 16, 2016, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation canceled the verdict and sent the Kirovles case for re -consideration.
• On February 8, 2017, Navalny and Officerwas found guilty and sentenced, respectively, to five and four years in prison, as well as a fine of 500 thousand rubles to each.
• On September 21, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, supervising the implementation of the decision of the ECHR, called on Russia to allow Navalny to participate in the elections. According to European officials, Russian officials do not fulfill the decision of the European Court-the Russian Federation still infringes on Navalny's rights regarding the opportunity to participate in the election campaign. Russia was called to “urgently take measures to eliminate the consequences” of violations of the rights of the policy.
