The first stage of the prisoner exchange has ended in Donbass, Interfax reports , citing a representative of the unrecognized Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).
In exchange for 74 prisoners by the separatists, 16 people were handed over to Kyiv. According to the representative of the DPR, the Ukrainian authorities initially planned to hand over 99 people. At the same time, two prisoners of war refused to return to the separatists. The exchange takes place on neutral territory between the Kyiv-controlled settlement of Mayorsk and Gorlovka, which is held by the DPR. The procedure is monitored by representatives of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission and the Red Cross.
On December 25, the terms of the exchange were agreed upon . According to them, Ukraine will release 306 people, and the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR 74 prisoners.
