At the end of February 2017, mass detention of men began in Chechnya on suspicion of homosexuality. They were kept in secret prisons, tortured, humiliated, killed or forced relatives to execute the ancient custom of the “killing of honor” against their loved ones.

For the first time this was described in the publication of Novaya Gazeta, Murder of Honor.

Immediately after it, on a hot line organized by the human rights activists of the Russian LGBT network, the victims began to make dozens.

Chechnya categorically denied the very possibility of the existence of homosexuals in Chechen society.

The spokesman for the head of the republic publicly stated that the murder of gays is an acceptable thing for Chechen society.

By the end of 2017, the LGBT network evacuated 106 people from Chechnya. All these people are now outside Russia. Six countries opened their borders for them.
