Historian Yuri Dmitriev will be released on his own recognizance

Historian and chairman of the Karelian "Memorial" Yuri Dmitriev, accused of producing pornographic materials with the participation of a minor, will be released from the pre-trial detention center on January 28, 2018 on bail. This decision was made by the Petrozavodsk city court, the 7×7 publication reports , citing lawyer Viktor Anufriev.

The reason for initiating proceedings against the historian was the photographs of the naked adopted daughter, which he kept on the computer. The defense insists that Dmitriev took photographs to record the physical development of the girl.

A re-examination of photographs of the adopted daughter of the historian Yuri Dmitriev established that the photographs were taken to control the physical development of the child and do not carry the purpose of making pornography. The first study, conducted by the Center for Socio-Cultural Expertise, considered nine out of 120 photographs to be pornographic.

On March 2, Dmitriev was charged with indecent acts (Article 135 of the Criminal Code), illegal acquisition and storage or carrying of weapons (Article 222 of the Criminal Code), and taking photographs of a person under the age of fourteen for the purpose of producing pornographic materials (Article 242.2 of the Criminal Code).

The close heads of the Karelian "Memorial" consider the case the result of a provocation: before the case was opened against Dmitriev, for some unknown reason he was summoned for a conversation with the district police officer, and while Dmitriev was not at home, someone could get access to his the computer where the photos were stored.
