The Meshchansky Court of Moscow sentenced Dmitry Bezdelov, the former head of the Federal Agency for the Arrangement of the State Border of the Russian Federation (Rosgranitsa), to nine years in prison for fraud.
Bezdelov was also fined one million rubles. The accusation of organizing a criminal community was excluded from the case.
Bezdelov's defense intends to appeal the verdict.
Seven more accomplices of Bezdelov received terms from 2 to 8 years, all convicts will serve their sentences in a general regime colony.
