The landing ship "Yamal" collided in the Aegean Sea with a dry load of Sierra Leone

The large landing ship "Yamal" was damaged, colliding in the Aegean Sea when returning from Syria with the ORCA 2 dry load from Sierra Leone. Interfax announced the incident that occurred on December 30, 2017.

In early January, Yamal returned to the base in the annexed Sevastopol. Local bloggers published a photo in which damage was recorded on the left side of the ship. After that, in the afternoon on the 10th day, the agency was placed with reference to the "informed sources" note about the collision.

Soon the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet of Russia confirmed the fact of the incident. The military reported that the clash occurred around the morning of the 30th in the Carpatos Strait, 9-10 miles south of the island of Rhodes. It is alleged that the culprit was a civilian ship, which, following a parallel course, overtook Yamal. The dry cargo team, not making sure that the overtaking was completed, sharply changed the course to the right. As a result, Orca 2 crashed into a warship.

There were no victims, they assured at the headquarters. Both ships remained on the go; Yamal damage is estimated as uncritical.

The Russian side sent a protest with the request to reimburse the cost of repairing the ship.

It is alleged that large landing ships, along with the ships of the auxiliary fleet, deliver ammunition for Russian units at the Khmeimim air base and the troops of the Syrian dictator Bashar al -Assad. The previous time "Yamal" made a flight to Syria in November 2017.

On April 27, 2017 , the Russian Liman reconnaissance ship, faced with the cattle transported by the Tomolis vessel, "Ashot 7" sank in Bosphorus . The ship received a hole in board below the waterline. All crew members were saved.
