The Shalinsky City Court of Chechnya arrested for two months the head of the republican representative office of the Human Rights Center "Memorial" Oyuba Titiev, against whom the case of illegal trafficking in drugs is fabricated. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the lawyer Peter Zaikin.
"The court granted the investigator’s petition, choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention in the form of two months, namely until March 9," the lawyer said. He noted that this decision will be appealed in the appeal instance tomorrow.
Titiev insists that the bag with marijuana threw one of the police officers under the passenger seat. “Today, at a meeting in court, Oyub spoke in detail about the circumstances that indicate the absence of an event of a crime, as well as how a package with a drug -containing substance was in his car,” Zaikin said .
The human rights activist has already written a statement to the Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Chechen Republic on initiating a case against this policeman. "We plan to submit an application tomorrow at a personal reception from the head of the department or his deputy. If we are not accepted, we will hand him to the office," the lawyer said.
Titiev was charged under Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code (illegal traffic of drugs on a large scale), which provides for 3 to 10 years of the colony.
On the morning of Tuesday, 60-year-old Titiev was detained by Kadyrovites near Kurchaloy when he went to work in Grozny. The security forces watched the human rights activist, after which they delivered him to the district OMVD. At the same time, the first few hours they denied that the detainee was in the department, although his car was parked by the building.
Later on the same day, it became known that against Titiev , they were opening a case of illegal trafficking in drugs . It is claimed that the activist found a package with 180 grams of marijuana in the car.
On Wednesday , the Commissioner of the Council of Europe on Human Rights Nils Mujniex made a statement in defense of Titiev. He called suspicions of the detainee’s address doubtful. Later on the same day, the US State Department made a similar statement . In Washington, they demanded that the Chechnya authorities immediately free the detainee, and from Moscow, "taking into account quite reasonable concern in connection with the possibility of bad treatment with Mr. Titiev in conclusion," to protect his rights.
On Thursday, it became known that the operatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Kurchaloevsky district of Chechnya are threatened by Titiev’s relatives , trying to get a self -propelled gun from a self -carrier. On Tuesday and Wednesday, police repeatedly threatened his relatives with “serious troubles”. On Wednesday, the Kadyrovites broke into the house of the detainee in a curly. There were no wives and children at home - there were only relatives of Yakub Titiev, the brother of the activist. The security forces said they were looking for Yakub and his 28-year-old son Bekhan. At the same time, the visitor acted very rudely. Women replied that neither Yakub nor Beckhan in the village of now. Then the Kadyrovites said that on Thursday both should come to their district police officer, otherwise their relatives are awaiting trouble. Then the Kadyrovites drove all the women from the house and locked it, and took the keys with them.
