Chairman of the Moscow City Election Commission Valentin Gorbunov said that a referendum on the unification of the Maryino and Lyublino districts could take place on the day of the presidential elections on March 18, reports . Interfax

“The municipal assembly recognized the initiative group’s issue as complying with the law. Now the referendum commission, whose powers will be exercised by the territorial election commission, must register the initiative group for holding a referendum,” Gorbunov said.

The Chairman of the Moscow City Election Commission said that after registration, the initiative group must open a special bank account, prepare signature sheets, and then begin collecting signatures. If everything is in order with the documents, then the council of the municipal district must set a date for the referendum. According to Gorbunov, if all necessary actions are completed by the end of January, then the referendum “theoretically” could take place on the day of the presidential election, but this is “not necessary.”

Earlier, Mediazona wrote that the Council of Deputies of the Maryino Municipal District in Moscow decided to submit to a local referendum the question of the possibility of uniting the Maryino and Lyublino districts.
