1948. The murder of Solomon Mikhoels

70 years ago, on January 12, 1948, Solomon Mikholes, theater director, actor and chairman of the Jewish Anti -Fascist Committee, were killed in Minsk. It was officially announced that he died as a result of a car accident.

In fact, the murder of Mikhoels was organized by order of Stalin and Minister of State Security of the USSR Abakumov by a group of MGB officers, headed by Deputy Abakumov, Sergei Okholtsov. Mikhoels was taken to the country of the Minister of State Security of Belarus Lavrenty Tsanawa. There Mikhoels and the agent of the MGB, the theater critic Vladimir Golubov, who accompanied him, was killed. Their bodies were crushed by a truck, and then thrown into one of the Minsk streets.

In April 1953, at the request of Beria, Stoltsov was arrested on charges of murder of Mikhoels, but in August, after the fall of Beria, he was released.
