Communist Viktor Anpilov died after a stroke

The leader of the “Labor Russia”, the Communist Viktor Anpilov died after the stroke, was stated in the message on his Facebook page.

“Today, without consciousness after a stroke, Viktor Anpilov died,” the post said.

On the eve of January 14, the left activist and State Duma deputy Daria Mitina wrote on her page that 72-year-old Anpilova had an extensive stroke when he was heading for a meeting with the Communist President of the Communist Party Pavel Grudinin. Anpilova was hospitalized in the intensive care of the Sklifosovsky Institute. Tonight Mitina reported the death of a politician.

Victor Anpilov is one of the leaders of the non-systemic opposition of the 1990s. He headed the radically left movement “Labor Russia”, opposing the policy of President Boris Yeltsin. Anpilov was an active participant in the street shares of 1992-1993. During the armed confrontation of Yeltsin and the Supreme Council, he supported the parliament, was arrested. Anpilov sat in prison for almost six months, but fell under an amnesty.

During the 1996 presidential election, he for a long time refused to support the candidate from the Communist Party of the Communist Party of Gennady Zyuganov, considering his position too moderate. Although in the 1995 parliamentary elections, “Labor Russia” received only 4.7% and did not overcome the five percent line, Anpilov had great authority in the left movement.

Anpilov continued to participate in street actions, refusing to cooperate with the parliamentary parties, tried to participate in the elections, but unsuccessfully. In the 2000s, he participated in protest promotions, including in the "Mars of the Disagnuts". In 2012, he was a confidant of Vladimir Zhirinovsky in the presidential election.
