Make a cut of the era

Creator and Head of the Arkha Cultural and Educational Center Alexei Sivukhin:

- What new came up with Arkha for 2018?

-In February of this year, we finally fulfill our dream- we open a branch in St. Petersburg . So far, of course, all this will not be in the same volume as in Moscow. Before the fall, the branch will work three times a week (one day - a course of lectures, other days - one -time lectures). But in the fall, we hope to increase our activity and gradually turn the site into a second full -fledged center.

As for the main platform in Moscow - all January and part of February, we are devoted to summing up the results in different fields of science for 2017. For several years, we have been conducting such lectures for several years, but this year we have significantly expanded the list (these are lectures on astrophysics, physics, linguistics, anthropology and paleontology, sociology and archeology). In addition, we, together with the director of documentary and popular science cinema, Dmitry Zavalgelsky, open the film school .

In 2017, we also had such a new format as “Scientific Cottage”, when we go along with a group of listeners and a lecturer out of town and spend two days of immersion in the topic.

- What lectures do you consider the most successful in 2017 and why?

- One of the most successful projects in 2017, I believe, was the conference “Science in the fields” dedicated to the field season, which we spent with the “Cat of Schrödinger”. Yes, we spent little time on advertising, announced late, but everything went fine. Now we want to spend it in March and already thoroughly prepare. And hold this conference twice a year.

There are actually a lot of ideas. A lot of unrealized, about which you do not want to talk about. But one very important for us is an absolutely non -profit project, we hope to begin to actively implement in this half -year. This is a "story through personality." An attempt to seize a piece of living history, the history of science, culture and society, to make a certain cut of the era. These are notes of conversations with people of science and culture. This is a chronicle of the era, the history of science and culture through the prism of stories of people of science and culture.

We were lucky that in our time the generation of people who are already in seventy and eighty, who stand at the origins of our science, carry a whole era, the history of the 20th century of our country. And in this project the time is critical: people are leaving. Therefore, it is so important for us to start as quickly as possible. We will look for financing for this, but for now, money will go to the project from the “For Fidelity of Science” award.

- The main failure of the past year (iF ANY)?

Well, if we talk about failures, then I probably won’t single out some completely obvious. They did not have time, they did a lot like they wanted. So, we still have not rocked the project “Medsosvet”, which, I think, should be relevant in our society. It doesn’t work out to reach the “humanitarian” audience. The number of courses in the humanities in us is a little less than in natural, but in terms of the number of listeners the difference is huge.
