In Canada, a selfie placed on Facebook helped to convict a girl in the murder of a friend

In the court of the Canadian province of Saskachevan, a criminal proceedings, initiated by the murder of the 18-year-old Britney Gargol, were completed. In the commission of this crime, her friend Rose Antoine was found guilty. The killer issued a picture of two years ago, published on the social network on the Internet. In the photo, the accused poses with the future victim, and the instrument of murder also accidentally got into the frame.

The Saskatun court sentenced 21-year-old Chainn Rose Antoine to seven years in prison, CBC News reports.

The corpse of Britney Gargol was found in 2015 by the side of the Valley Road on the southern outskirts of Saskatun. The victim was strangled. A belt was found next to the body, which the killer used as a stray.

Although the criminal, as it turned out later, was the victim’s girlfriend, the investigation moved slowly and took two years. An important evidence was a selfie published on Facebook six hours before the detection of the corpse of Britney. In the picture, Gargol and Antoine pose together, smiling at the camera. Moreover, in the corner of the photograph, a fragment of the belt is visible similar to the one that was found at the crime scene. At the time of shooting, this belt encircled Rose's waist.

After analyzing other publications on social networks, the police managed to restore the picture and chronology of the crime, to find out the route of the movement of girls.

The killer also used Facebook, but for the opposite purpose. She tried to direct the detectives along the wrong path and take suspicions from herself. A few hours after the murder, Antoine published an alarming post in which she was interested in friends where her friend Britney disappeared.

Later, during interrogation in the police, Rose admitted that on the night of the death of Britney, she drank alcohol with her. The girls visited several bars, and then allegedly parted. Antoine met a man and left with him.

However, investigators convicted the girl in lies. According to Rose, she went with a new acquaintance to the Colonial Pub and Grill bar. However, the surveillance cameras of this drinking institution did not record a visitor who would look like Rose outwardly.

Then Antoine put forward another version, according to which two men killed a friend. They allegedly threatened with weapons and Rose. However, it was not possible to confirm the words of the girl again.

Suspicions were caused by the bruises and cuts found in the hands of Rose. The girl explained the origin of injuries by the aggressive behavior of her cousin, who allegedly bit her in a drunken state.

In the end, the police managed to find a key witness. It turned out to be a friend Antoine, to whom she headed after the murder. Being in a hysterical state, the girl admitted to him that she killed her friend.

After exposing, Rose told the police that on the basis of the alcohol drunk between her and the victim there was a quarrel. As a result, the girl strangled Britney.

According to Antoine, she poorly remembers the details of the reprisals. But the very fact of her involvement in the murder. The girl does not deny.

In court, Rose suffers from alcoholism and drug addiction. The craving for drugs arose on the basis of psychological problems caused, presumably, rape from the stepfather. At the moment, the man is charged, ABC News reports.
