Since the role of PMCs in the Syrian campaign is recognized by everyone very significant, we recorded the opinion of the famous military, the reserve colonel, a participant in the wars in Afghanistan and Chechnya Rustem Klupov, the head of the intelligence of the Ground Forces of the Russian Armed Forces in 2007-2009.

I have not yet developed a civil position on a difficult issue of PMCs. But, as a military man, I am convinced that for the PMC and drones the battlefield of the future.
The large military powers, obviously, intend to fight with each other indirectly, in the territory of third countries. In this form and the Cold War we can consider as a protracted third world,
Which, in order to avoid a direct clash fraught with global nuclear conflict and collapse of civilization, took place in the territory of third countries.
In Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan, the third countries led by military specialists of the USSR and the USA. Now there is a very fast evolution of funds and methods of armed struggle. States compete in economics, energy, and even in the cultural sphere without the use of the army. In conflicts, on the territory of third countries, there is a demonstration of their capabilities and ambitions.
In addition, in all these rival countries, the electorate equally painfully perceives human losses in wars, regardless of whether it is real democracy or imaginary. The death of the military is always political damage to the ruling class and government. PMCs today are the main way to get away from this problem, and in the near future this practice will become a common place. According to my sources, many reports on the successes of our army in Syria were actually the work of PMCs.
Yes, this is the same Russian special forces, but already in a new format. They followed the command applications at the theater of military operations. I am saying, among other things, about the work of air raiders who brought aircraft air forces on targets.
Some tasks could only be solved with the involvement of PMCs. At the same time, the losses that they carried were not included in the statistics of the armed forces. We learned this, like much more, from the Americans.
Large, almost openly, they began to use PMC in Iraq. At first they were entrusted with communications, then dirty work on restoring order in the rebellious areas. Today they perform diverse functions.
The French Foreign Legion in the political sense is a prototype of PMC. He was born during the struggle of France for his colonies, where his whole story passed. After all, citizens of France were not so sorry for the dead Romanians, Russians or Bosnians. Their death does not carry political stress. The legion by law does not even have the right to fight in France.
So far, our command used PMC in Syria often as advanced units, expressed in the terms of NATO - the cover troops, and as reconnaissance.
They had no heavier than mortars, although no one prevents them from giving them units of receiver and tanks of the Union Syrian Army - this is a logical decision. Artillery is the main type of infantry support, and the artillery adjustor must be in the ranks of the advancing unit of PMCs. And the guns can have any Arabs or Africans.
The next key figure in this chain is a senior battery officer, he must also be a professional. If not for military personnel, then - an employee of the PMC. A competent organization of the struggle involves the creation of a group of fiery defeat planning from such pros that will distribute goals and priority between artillery, missiles and so on on the vast sections of the front. The most convenient tactical unit for such actions is quite independent - the battalion. Even the charter of the Soviet Army provided an enhanced motorized rifle battalion for such purposes.
Future PMC detachments will be able to quickly move around the vast unassked areas in the form of a mechanized battalion with a tank company, a mortar battery, an artillery division, a modern platoon of flamethrowers with a Buratino TOS, for example. They may be given as necessary to a radio electronic struggle and intelligence unit. At a distance of about 20-25 km from such a battalion, his eyes should be put forward - at least reconnaissance patrols with unmanned vehicles. Well, the air raid is mandatory.
As for departmental rivalry, I can say that from those who fought in Syria and directly interacting the army with them, I heard only respectful words about PMCs. They saw with their own eyes how these people fight and die on the battlefield. I did not hear sarcasm, judgments about their unprofessionalism.
REFERENCE
To understand what the military security services market is, we give only one digit. In 2012, the total amount of financial resources, which was allocated for payment for PMCs around the world, amounted to about 350 billion US dollars . This is more than the budget of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
There is a contradiction of our tradition of conducting hostilities in attracting PMCs, of course. The country was protected by the called peasants, citizens, teachers or workers. That is, from the time of Minin and Pozharsky, to the Chechen war, a simple people put under a gun fought. Following this tradition, many military leaders still consider it right to throw young people gained from the desk.
And hiring for money not just professionals, but mercenaries are a completely new approach, rather technological than patriotic. We are not used to this. It seems to me that it is here that the rejection of the idea of PMCs in some military minds is rooted.
In the history of mercenaryism, there are examples of conscientious fulfillment of military duty, up to self -sacrifice, there are facts of transition to the enemy side. No wonder one Iraqi general in 2003 repeated the phrase of the Macedonian: "A donkey, loaded with gold, will take any city." They have such cases - practically the norm.
Time will tell how PMCs will develop in Russia, but our guys, “military romantics”, in the conditions of the economic crisis, will serve there. Many good-level experts, unable to resist the army due to an inanimate nature, will find their place in PMCs. Over the past two years, I have simply been attacked by many military men who asked them to reduce them with the PMC leadership or with those who are gaining there - everyone wanted to fight in Syria.
These sobbing-heads are very well trained officers. They know what salaries in PMCs, and see that the state will not skimp on state awards, that the founder of the Wagner PMC was awarded in the Kremlin. I think that there are no problems with qualified personnel in the near future.
