80 years ago, on January 25, 1938, the poet, musician and actor Vladimir Vysotsky was born. During his lifetime in the USSR, his poems and songs, despite his enormous popularity, were not published. In 1979, a year before his death, Vysotsky participated in the uncensored almanac Metropol, which was banned in the USSR and published only in the West.
“I am often identified with the heroes of my songs,” Vysotsky said, “but no one has ever thought to ask if I was a wolf, a horse or a fighter, on whose behalf I also sing: after all, you can write on behalf of any objects, in them you can put your soul into everything - and that's it!"
