US Treasury Secretary: publication of the “Kremlin list” will be followed by new sanctions

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the publication of a "Kremlin list" of more than 200 Russian officials and businessmen would lead to new sanctions. This is reported by correspondents of CNBC and The New York Times .

Mnuchin noted that by January 29, the department should have prepared a report on possible prohibitive measures, and not the sanctions themselves. From his words it also follows that information about the new sanctions is in the classified part of the report.

“More sanctions will follow from this report,” Mnuchin said.

• On January 30, the US Treasury published a list of 114 Russian officials and 96 businessmen who could be sanctioned under a law passed in the summer of 2017. The document does not provide for automatic introduction of restrictive measures.
• The criteria for including people on this list were stated to be proximity to President Vladimir Putin and influence on the Russian economy.
• The list includes employees of the presidential administration, members of the government, heads of departments and state-owned companies, as well as all Russian businessmen whose fortune exceeds a billion dollars. Nothing is known about the close relationship of many of them with Vladimir Putin.
