The Investigative Committee did not ask for an extension of the arrest of mathematician Bogatov

The Investigative Committee did not ask the court to extend the term of arrest for mathematician Yuri Bogatov, accused of attempting to organize mass riots and terrorism. This is reported by TASS with reference to a source in law enforcement agencies.

In October, the court extended Bogatov's arrest until January 31. Today was the last day when the investigation could apply for a new extension of the preventive measure. But that did not happen.

Bogatov's wife Tatyana Fedorova wrote on her Facebook page that so far no one has removed the electronic bracelet from her husband:

A small rebuttal: Dima is still under arrest with a bracelet. Perhaps it will stop tomorrow. This is all we officially know for now.

Bogatov was initially charged with inciting mass riots because of the proposal to go to Red Square on April 2, 2017, which was posted by someone under the pseudonym "Ayrat Bashirov" on the SysAdmins.ru forum. The calls were sent from Bogatov's IP, but Bogatov is the exit node operator of the Tor network, which means that any user could write from his IP.

After the arrest in April, the court, contrary to the requirements of the investigation, did not take Bogatov into custody. Then the charge was reclassified to a more serious one, imputing two articles - about calls for terrorist activities or justifying terrorism using the Internet and about preparing to organize mass riots, after which he was sent to a pre-trial detention center. However, on July 24, the mathematician was transferred from the SIZO to house arrest, which was later extended until January 31, 2018.

On January 24, it became known that the forensic center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not find any evidence of the mathematician's guilt.
