More than 7 thousand people decided to join the collective lawsuit of Roskomvoboda to the FSB. This is stated on the project website.
The reason for the claim is the requirement of the FSB for the Telegram messenger to provide keys for decryption of messages.
“We are going to defend our right to encrypt in all legal ways. Without illusions, we will appeal the illegal requirements of the FSB in Russian courts, eager to get the opportunity to decrypt of personal messages of any user, as well as group chats. We will go to the end, by contacting every instance of national and international courts, including the ECHR and the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, demanding the protection of our digital rights from the arbitrariness of the Russian intelligence services, ”the Roskomvoboda website says.
Now they have moved to the second stage - they explain everything to their desire, they explain the legal side of the issue and explain what needs to be done in order to file an administrative lawsuit. About this, the lawyer of the international human rights group "Agora" Pavel Chikov told Novaya Gazeta.
To clarify this Roskomvobod, I created a chat in Telegram. Now there are several dozen people. To file a collective claim, 20 people are needed. They plan to file a lawsuit in February.
In the fall, journalists Oleg Kashin and Alexander Poyshchev filed claims against the FSB due to the requirement to provide encryption keys from user correspondence. The court returned Poyshchev’s lawsuit due to the fact that the FSB demand allegedly does not affect his interests. The court of Kashin refused to accept the production.
The FSB in July sent Telegram a request to transmit information to decipher six users. The messenger did not answer the request of the special services, after which he was fined 800 thousand rubles.
