Intel glasses are difficult to distinguish from ordinary ones - except that their arches are a little thicker. Compared to Google Glass , which supported third -party applications and looked like a gadget from the future, Vaunt are arranged much easier.
Glasses are designed by the Intel New Devices Group laboratory. They weigh less than 50 grams - this is a little more than the usual frame. Thanks to light weight, they are almost invisible. Intel glasses, like ordinary ones, have flexible arches, so they sit comfortably and adapt to the shape of the head.
A low -power laser on the right hand, placed right at the place of its fastening to the frame, is responsible for the transfer of the image. The laser projects the image on a special reflector placed on the lens, and from there it gets directly to the retina. The laser allows you to transmit a monochrome red image to the eyes: for example, notifications or reference information. Glasses are controlled by the iOS or Android application, which maintains communication with the Bluetooth device.
The laser is so low -power that it does not need a special certificate for its use, it cannot damage the vision, they say on Intel. Due to the fact that the image appears directly on the retina, the eyes do not need to focus, and the signal is equally clear for those who have perfect vision, both for myopic and farsighted ones.
The glasses do not have a video camera, but there is an accelerometer and a compass that allow points to recognize the movements of the head and respond accordingly to them. In the future, it is planned to integrate the microphone in glasses.
The Verge journalist Dier Bon says: “Vaunt is not like anything else. The device projects red text and icons to the lower right corner of your field of view. But when I did not look down in this direction, I did not see anything. At first it seemed to me that the glasses were not tuned. In fact, it was a feature, not a bug. "
Journalists showed only a demo version of the Vaunt points, which showed notifications of calls and displayed the names of the streets. Bon notes that he is very quickly used to points. He also noticed that for the interlocutor almost imperceptibly, look at the notifications that came from glasses or not. At the same time, the eyes notice when something new appears: you just can’t miss a new message from glasses.
Glasses operate up to 18 hours from one charge, that is, about the same as the first version of Apple Watch. The operating time of the first Google Glass prototype was limited to four hours.
How to use Vaunt, Intel has not yet come up with - too many opportunities. In 2018, the company will allow individual developers to get acquainted with glasses and start writing programs for them. The cost of glasses and approximate dates of their appearance on sale are not called.
