The Supreme Court of Crimea extended the arrest of those involved in the Bakhchisarai “Hizb ut-Tahrir case”

The Supreme Court of Crimea extended until April 17, 2018 the arrest of the defendants in the Bakhchisarai “Hizb ut-Tahrir case” Zevri Abseitov, Remzi Memetov, Rustem Abiltarov and Enver Mamutov. “Crimean Solidarity” writes about this on Facebook.

Enver Mamutov is accused of organizing a terrorist cell (Part 1 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code), and Rustem Abiltarov, Remzi Memetov and Zevri Abseitov are accused of participating in it (Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code).

The men were detained in May 2016 after searches were carried out in five houses and cafes in Bakhchisarai.

The Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir was recognized as a terrorist organization by decision of the Supreme Court. However, a number of experts from human rights organizations believe that there is no reason for this, since members of Hizb ut-Tahrir were not found to be involved in committing or preparing terrorist attacks.

In recent years, in different regions of Russia, many cases have been opened under the article on the activities of a terrorist organization, in which people are actually accused of terrorism solely on the basis of “party activities” (meetings, reading literature).
