In PyeongChang, South Korea, the blackest building in the world was built for the Winter Games. The Hyundai pavilion was designed by British architect Asif Khan. The building is covered with Vantablack VBx2, a material that absorbs 99.965% of light. On the walls of the pavilion there are tubes with luminous ends that create the effect of stars. The pattern of the starry sky changes depending on how far the viewer is from the building and at what angle he looks at the pavilion. And inside the blackest building in the world is white!
“This is just the beginning of a new world of microstructures <…>. We're looking at the possibilities of 'structural color', which is the ability of materials to have color properties in their very physical structure - like butterfly wings, for example," said Asif Khan.
