The “Paper” spent Science Slam in St. Petersburg: on the stage of the Club “Waiting Hall”, young scientists told about the behavior of the crowd, modern electronics, human DNA and Roman sculpture. You can see the record in the VKontakte group.
Why even a study capable of turning the world can not be accepted in a scientific journal, how are GOSTs interfere with scientists and why watch TV shows while writing a dissertation?

Work should correspond to existing templates. Therefore, for example, educational work causes difficulties, but if the student had to write the second, then he would spend much less time and effort on it. Writing the text itself is a simple task: this skill comes with experience. There are comrades who rivet articles on an industrial scale (which is on their conscience).
In my opinion, the most difficult and creative part of the work is to come up with the idea itself, what you will promote, what hypotheses to check, what data to enter. Here you need to show imagination. And it can be very difficult to fit into the framework and requirements related to both GOSTs and with the choice of topic.
I watched the same difficulties with my diplomats: they need to fit into the existing regulations. They should decide in a month how many pictures they need to work, which GOSTs to meet and so on.
The same problem is in magazines. If you want to write to a good magazine, then you will face a number of formalities. Even a study that can change the world will not be accepted if the order of paragraphs differs from the adopted. The most cruel restrictions are imposed precisely on formal signs.
Why does work sometimes end at the last moment? In my case, this is only laziness and fear of making a study of the wrong level that I was counting on.
I just don't sleep and work. I don’t drink coffee, but I absorb lemonades like “Coca-Cola” wild liters because they help not to sleep. I do not see the problem [force myself to work]: if there is a task, then you need to fulfill it. And all sorts of excuses: “laziness”, “I cannot today” - this is secondary. You can feel sorry for yourself or not, but if the task is, it’s easier to sit down and do it now than to put it off for later. You just need to force yourself to sit down at the computer and work. Social networks do not bother me: the brain does not turn off when I answer messages.

I think that the problems of writing large student and scientific papers can be divided into two types: the difficulties of a “good” student and the difficulties of a “bad” student. The problems of the first type include a collision with something new: you have never done this before, are not familiar with the criteria and requirements, and indeed have not encountered such large works (60–80 pages for a bachelor). All this causes excitement and requires some time to study the whole procedure, but conscientious students cope with this without titanic efforts.
The second type of problems include difficulties caused by unfair studies. Everyone knows that the mass of students will learn to graduation courses only through the purchase of course and laboratory, with the help of different organizations, small bribery, and sometimes simply due to good luck. Such students have great difficulties with writing WKR and dissertations, since their real knowledge and skills do not allow you to write serious work, and the cost of its order may approach a hundred thousand rubles. In addition, the market is full of scammers who take money and disappear.
Sometimes the combination of these factors puts people in an almost hopeless position. But from my own experience I can say that if you are at least a little interesting to your profession and you visit at least half of classes, then there will be no great difficulties. And if not, then you should think: do you need this diploma?
I am more often distracted. Sitting all day after one and the same is as difficult. Write for half an hour, and then drink tea, sit in VKontakte and return back - it’s easier for me. Although someone, perhaps, on the contrary, is more difficult, because attention is scattered. You can write an hour, and watch the series for an hour. If you do this eight times, then sit for your work for four hours. And if you sit for it at once for four hours, then most likely on the second you just go crazy.
It takes more time to work for your pleasure. It must be understood that in a day, three days or a week you can’t write what needs more time for.

It is quite difficult for me to write volumetric works, such as dissertations and overview texts. Often a beautiful and extraordinary idea rests on a routine set of text and building graphs with pictures. Scientists - in particular, young are sufficiently fond of nature: it is much more interesting to take on the solution of more and more scientific tasks and problems, and the dissertations and diploma look like a run on the spot. Nevertheless, this kind of work is very important for structuring the results and knowledge. They also give an idea of the current state of affairs in some scientific field.
As for scientific articles, their creation seems to me a very creative process. At the stage, when all the results seem to be ready and you are eager to start writing an article, the question immediately arises: how to properly state the main idea and bring all the presentation to it? And it often happens that the result, which seemed the main thing at the stage of planning or experiment, is not as bright as the one, for example, which is detected during the construction of graphs.
The layout and layout of the graphs is also a creative process: an article with high -quality, well -grouped and detailed pictures is much more pleasant to read and easier to understand. For this reason, my colleagues and this aspect and I pay special attention to this aspect. A beautiful and laconic conceptual image of the main result will allow the work to get a greater resonance and coverage in scientific circles.
Dedlines help me concentrate. Because my highest performance comes an hour after the deadline. You can still go out for a walk, make a look at to be distracted. This is just a change of activity: if you sit and only drink coffee, you will be lit.
Science is such a strange thing, because the result is completely not additive in time (does not correspond to the time spent - approx. “Paper” ). If I work for five hours in a row, the result will be one. And if I sit five times for an hour, then there will be no result at all. It is necessary to work not in raids, but to sit down and understand.

It seems to me that writing big works is difficult for several reasons. Firstly, it is difficult to clearly formulate the thought so that it is clear to everyone, but it was not disgusted to read it. In addition, it is necessary to write the work of the right volume. It is usually not fixed, but a candidate dissertation of 20 pages will be perceived suspiciously.
Secondly, when you work with one topic for a long time, then it does not seem new to you yourself and does not cause an acute joy.
Well, one more problem is the sections “Introduction” and “Relevance”: it’s hard for me to write them, because I have to frankly attract the reasons why the study can be applied in the “national economy”. But, on the other hand, no one is particularly read into these sections, so you can not limit yourself to fantasies.
A good dream helps me. If you sleep poorly, more than one current task in the brain is not held. Well, deadline, of course. When the deadlines are burning, everything turns out quickly.
This approach helps best: in the evening you get the task, you begin to deal with it, you suffer, nothing comes of it. You throw everything, sleep - and in the morning everything is clear! If the task is great, I jerk over it into many parts.

I did not experience any particular difficulties with my work - neither with the topic or with the regulations. The topic of the dissertation smoothly resulted in the work that I was engaged in the magistracy. Usually the one who wants to protect himself takes and defends himself. I saw how people defended themselves with work that did not meet GOST standards even in volume, but they contained such that it allowed not to pay attention to it. But this is rather an exception: usually, when a person does not have enough volume in work, it can be reproached for the lack of imagination and ingenuity.
The main difficulties that I observe arise in those who are already actively and tightly working - especially in production. For example, we are recruiting graduates of our joint department at the Moscow Physics and Technical Institute. It so happens that some of them fall into the northern cities, close to production, to those deposits where oil is produced. Then the schedule and kind of activity affects, although there are reverse examples of how work only helps in writing a dissertation.
Objectively, this can be considered an obstacle: a person is in a small town, far from scientific centers, cannot discuss something and chat live.

Scientific work is always a study. In order to conduct any study, it is necessary to accurately formulate the topic of scientists of research, build a clear plan, get acquainted with a large amount of information, and make observations. All this requires strength and time. Then, finally, the results and thoughts should be summarized, expressed in the form of conclusions, which is also sometimes given.
For example, my research requires a huge amount of material that needs to be processed and compared that no one has done before me. This eats most of the time.
I have a certain plan: what, what and in what sequence I will talk. I also need to get acquainted with those studies that were conducted in related areas before me. And then - view a large number of monuments themselves already from a new angle.
Another difficulty: the Roman ancient sculpture, of course, is in sunny Italy, in former Roman colonies throughout the Mediterranean. Therefore, I have to make quite long travels. There are so -called cabinet scientists, there are practices. I'd like to avoid the first option, so I have to watch everything.
The main thing is a cup of delicious coffee and the desire to work, because it itself will not appear. Usually it is easier for me to work at night: no one is noisy outside, does not distract. In addition, a good Internet is very necessary. He greatly simplifies my work: I can see the publications I need in the Heidelberg Library or the publication of the British Museum without leaving my warm room at all.
