Academics and doctors wrote to Putin an open letter in defense of Misyurina

More than six and a half thousand workers of medicine and patients, as well as several academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) addressed the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin an open letter in defense of Elena Misyurina , a Moscow hematologist, who was sentenced to two years of the colony due to the death of the patient. The text of the appeal was published by the portal "Medusa" .

"It is well known that all medical manipulations are associated with a certain risk. The criminal prosecution of doctors for complications that could not be prevented may lead to the fact that doctors would be afraid to conduct medical manipulations, associated even with minimal risk. We already know cases of leaving the profession of experienced doctors due to fear for the fulfillment of their daily duties," - emphasized in the statement.

Representatives of the medical community and patient organizations demanded that Elena Misyurin are released and appoint a second examination with the involvement of leading practicing Russian experts. The letter also provides already well -known details of the investigation, including very dubious ones.

Recall that the incident, which became the reason for initiating a criminal case against Misyurina, occurred in July 2013 in a private clinic on the Profsoyuznaya Street. According to the investigation, with a bone marrow trepanobiopsy, the hematologist "violated the methodology, tactics and technique of performing" the procedure, damaging the blood vessels of the patient, who died a few days later.

On January 22, 2017, the Cheremushkinsky court sentenced Misurin to two years in a general regime colony, finding guilty of the provision of services that did not meet the safety requirements that resulted in the death of the patient. The verdict caused a great resonance, including in the medical community. Experts pointed out inconsistencies in the case and doubted that the patient died precisely due to trepanobios, which is a completely mundane procedure.

The doctors indicated that the patient Misurina had several serious diseases, including oncological, and death, most likely, could occur as a result of his sharp exacerbation. On January 31, the prosecutor’s office of the South-Western Administrative District of Moscow asked the court to cancel the sentence, to free her from the guard and return the criminal case to the supervisory department.

On February 5, the Moscow City Court released hematologist Elena Misyurin from the pre-trial detention center , but she remains under the subscription of the departure before considering complaints about her sentence. The date of consideration of the complaint has not yet been scheduled.
