On February 12, Ukraine deported Mikheil Saakashvili, leader of the Movement of New Forces party, to Poland, Oleg Slobodyan, assistant to the head of the Ukrainian State Border Service, said on Facebook.

Saakashvili was detained by the servicemen of the State Border Service along with the police and the migration service. During the detention, people from the politician’s entourage resisted, because of which “the border guards were forced to defend themselves and used force support,” Slobodyan wrote.

By a court decision, Saakashvili was deported "to the country of his previous residence", that is, to Poland. The policy was adopted there because he is the spouse of a citizen of an EU member state, Interfax reported , citing the Polish Border Service (Saakashvili's wife Sandra Roelofs is a citizen of the Netherlands).

In accordance with court decisions, this person was on the territory of Ukraine illegally, and therefore, in compliance with all legal formalities, he was returned to the country from which he arrived, violating domestic law.
