The court in Cheboksary fined the lawyer of Navalny's headquarters for reposting

On February 9, the Moscow District Court of Cheboksary fined Yuri Ivanov, lawyer of Alexei Navalny’s headquarters, 1,000 rubles due to a repost on a social network. Rosbalt writes about this.

The court found Ivanov guilty under Art. 20.3 of the Administrative Code (propaganda or public display of Nazi symbols). The reason was the repost of an article by the publication “Orthodoxy and Peace” about the Second World War, which the activist made in 2014.

“When the judge procedurally began to clarify the assistant prosecutor’s attitude to the motion I submitted, he asked for a break to explain why he was against it. During the break, he intensively corresponded with someone on his smartphone, and only then said something like “and so everything is clear,” reports the group “Lawyer’s Office of Yuri Ivanov” on Facebook.

Article “World War II. The first salvos” was published on the website on September 1, 2014, at which time, according to the lawyer, he reposted it. In the text, which describes the beginning of World War II, there is a cartoon showing Stalin in a wedding dress and Hitler in a suit with a swastika walking holding hands. The drawing also has a caption in English: “I wonder how long the honeymoon will last?” The article also contains photographs of Hitler in a uniform with Nazi symbols.

The prosecutor's office began an investigation into Ivanov on January 31.
