The Feodosia City Court heard experts from the prosecution and defense in the case of Crimean Tatar activist Suleiman Kadyrov. He is accused of calling for separatism; on social networks, Kadyrov wrote that “Crimea is Ukraine. Was, is and will be." “Crimean Solidarity” writes about this on Facebook.
During the survey of experts, it turned out that the prosecution experts did not find calls for encroachment on the territorial integrity of Russia, and did not do a full linguistic analysis.
An expert linguist and an expert psychologist on the defense side also did not find any calls to violate the territorial integrity of Russia in Kadyrov’s statements.
“If we look at the methodology of the Ministry of Justice, we will see that there is no research at all in the examination of colleagues from the FSB. The conclusions are not proven by the linguist because the research itself, that is, the evidence, is not presented. “Suleiman Kadyrov agrees,” what does he agree with? With the fact that there is a problem, with the fact that Crimea has become part of Russia, with the fact that it is necessary to create a battalion or raise money for it? Nothing is said about this in the examination,” a linguist expert on behalf of the defense said at the court hearing.
According to experts, their colleagues from the FSB did not have the right to give a legal assessment of Kadyrov’s words. Experts came to the conclusion that there are no appeals in Kadyrov’s words, but rather “approval.”
Kadyrov is accused of public calls for separatism (Part 2 of Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code) for reposting a video from a Facebook page. The indictment was announced in court. Kadyrov did not admit guilt. In addition, eight witnesses in the case were questioned.
On October 5, 2016, a search was conducted at Suleiman Kadyrov’s house in Feodosia, during which his phone and computer were confiscated. The search was carried out in connection with statements allegedly made by Kadyrov that Crimea is a territory of Ukraine. On October 10, Kadyrov was summoned for questioning.
On October 11, 2016, a criminal case was opened against Kadyrov under Part 2 of Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code (public calls for actions aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation, committed using the media or electronic or information and telecommunication networks, the maximum sanction is imprisonment up to five years).
