The courts in Kyiv sentenced the military sailors Maxim Odintsov and Alexander Baranov to the 14th and 13th years of the colony, respectively, for the fact that after the annexation of Crimea they ignored the order to go to the continent and, by changing the oath, switched to the Russian army. This was reported by "Crimea. Realities" with reference to Valentina Rybin, a convicted lawyer.

The Darnitsky District Court of Darnitsky, on February 6, was sentenced to the 34 -year -old Odintsov, and his peasant Baranov - February 8, Podolsky district court. Both were found guilty under part 1 of Article 408 (desertion) and part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason).

Baranov is deprived of the title of junior sergeant. Whether Odintsov is deprived of the title of warrant officer, is not specified.

The defendants themselves refused to admit guilt. They insisted that they are citizens of Russia, not Ukraine.

In accordance with the "Savchenko Law", the time spent by the defectors in the pre -trial detention center before the sentence is credited to them on time at the rate of the day for two. Thus, it is believed that everyone has already left about 2 and a half years of imprisonment.

The courtwas reported about sending the case of defectors on December 26, 2016 . At what stage and for what reason the materials regarding each of the accused were divided and sent to different courts, as far as is known, it was not explained. The hearing on the merits of Odintsov continued on February 24, 2017, the trial on the merits of the Baranov case started on March 9.

Odintsov - a native of the city of Saki in the west of Crimea, Baranov was born in Kaneva, Cherkasy region. Cases against both were initiated back in 2015.

The defectors were detained on November 20, 2016 at the Chongar checkpoint in the Kherson region. As reported in the SBU, the deserters knew about the initiation of affairs against them, but they considered it possible to arrive at the continental Ukraine in order to acquire university diplomas necessary for receiving officer titles in the Russian army. At the same time, they said in the special service, the suspects intended to deceive the courier - they planned to lure it into the territory occupied by Russia, take the documents, and pass the FSB to the intermediary himself.

Following the movements of the courier, they stated in the SBU, the operatives went on the trail of Odintsov and Baranov and detained them. It was also reported that another defector was supposed to participate in the transaction, but for unknown reasons he did not arrive at the meeting with the courier. The name and title of the third suspect were not specified.

She also published a video recording of Baranov’s interrogation with his recognition in the state treason.

On November 22, the Central District Court of Nikolaev arrested both defectors for two months with the possibility of release on bail. However, the next day the same court deprived them of this opportunity . As explained in the prosecutor’s office, as of the 22nd, Odintsov and Baranov was announced suspicion only of desertion, while the next day they were also notified of suspicion of treason. This was the reason to tighten the preventive measure to them.

Then, on November 23, Vladimir Putin called the detention of Odintsov and Baranov "treachery." This is "akin to turning off the light in the Crimea in the winter", the Russian leader complained.

On December 8, 2016, the Investigative Committee announced that he was investigating the case of detention of defectors . The department called the businessmen two former employees of the Kharkov University of Air Forces. Kozheduba - Roman Tkachenko and Sergey Pavlenko. As reported, they were charged in absentia under part 5 of article 33 - paragraphs "A", "F" of part 2 of Article 126 of the Russian Criminal Code (aiding in the abduction of two or more persons by prior conspiracy). For this crime, the Code provides for from 5 to 12 years in the colony.

Tkachenko headed at the Kharkov university a course of students of absentee training of the faculty of postgraduate education, Pavlenko was the head of the automobile warehouse of the security platoon. According to the Investigative Committee, in 2016 they "entered into a criminal conspiracy with representatives of the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine, aimed at the abduction of Russian military personnel who had previously had Ukrainian citizenship and served in the Armed Forces of this country." The task of Tkachenko and Pavlenko, is stated in the case, was to find former listeners of the university who did not have time to receive diplomas, and convince them to arrive at the continental Ukraine.

The security forces, also said in the TFR message, entered into social networks on correspondence with defectors, proposing to give them the original diplomas. Tkachenko, as stated, convinced Odintsov and Baranov to leave the annexed Crimea, explaining that he would be able to meet with them only in the territory controlled by the legal Ukrainian authorities. “At the same time, he knew that other accomplices were ready to make their abduction,” the Investigative Department emphasized.

This information contradicts the SBU data, according to which the defectors did not actually end universities.
