Shooting at Florida school leaves at least 14 injured, authorities say dead

A shooting occurred at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14. At least 14 people were injured, the Parkland County Sheriff's Office said . The gunman has been arrested.

Broward County Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie , Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel , and Florida U.S. Senator Bill Nelson reported "multiple fatalities." The exact number is unknown. According to various sources, anywhere from two to seven people may have been killed.

The identity and motive of the attacker have not yet been released. Scott Israel said he was a former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. According to the Miami Herald, he is 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz. Jim Gard, a math teacher who Cruz was in last year's class, told the newspaper that he had threatened other students.

The shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School began around 2 p.m. local time (around 11:30 p.m. Moscow time), as the school was winding down for the day. Several students told CNN they heard gunshots, and shortly after, the school's alarm went off and people started running outside. Some hid inside the building. SWAT teams cordoned off the school grounds.

The evacuation of people from the school has been completed. The injured have been taken to hospitals. Police are working at the scene. All nearby schools have been closed, and residents of nearby houses are asked not to go outside.
